Rock Stun

Contents

[edit] Introduction

Rock Stun first came into existence with the release of Koa'ki Meiru Guardian in Raging Battle. The Shining Darkness followed a while later, bringing with it Koa'ki Meiru Sandman. Starstrike Blast came around later on to finish out the trio with Koa'ki Meiru Wall

[edit] Game Play

Rock Stun is a deck that revolves around Koa'ki Meiru Guardian, Koa'ki Meiru Sandman and Koa'ki Meiru Wall to negate an opponent's Monster effects, Traps and Spells, respectively, to control the opponent while slowing chipping away their life points with the Rock Koa'ki Meirus and other Stun support monsters.

The Rock Trio (Guardian, Sandman and Wall) all have a drawback, however, in the form of a Maintenance Cost. As with most Koa'ki Meiru monsters, you must either discard 1 Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru or reveal 1 card of a certain type(In the case of the Rock Trio, a Rock monster); otherwise, the monster is destroyed. This cost is easily fulfilled by maxing out the three monsters, as well as playing several other Rock monsters that benefit the "Stun" factor.

[edit] Building the Deck

[edit] The Core

3x Koa'ki Meiru Guardian

During each of your End Phases, destroy this card unless you send 1 "Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru" from your hand to the Graveyard or reveal 1 Rock-Type monster in your hand. You can Tribute this card to negate the activation of an Effect Monster's effect and destroy that monster.

Anti-Monster Effect. Stops your opponent's boss monsters and any monster effects that could put you in a bad place. 1900 attack also makes it extremely hard for your opponent to destroy. Add in some defensive traps like Dimensional Prison to save it from battle and Dark Bribe to negate any destruction effects in the form of Spell or Traps and your opponent will be put in a corner to get around it.

3x Koa'ki Meiru Sandman

During each of your End Phases, destroy this card unless you send 1 "Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru" from your hand to the Graveyard or reveal 1 Rock-Type monster in your hand. You can Tribute this card to negate the activation of an opponent's Trap Card and destroy that card.

Anti-Trap. Can save your field of monsters from destructive traps like Torrential Tribute and Mirror Force. Do note Sandman can NOT negate Counter Traps like Solemn Warning and Solemn Judgment]].

3x Koa'ki Meiru Wall

During each of your End Phases, destroy this card unless you send 1 "Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru" from your hand to the Graveyard or reveal 1 Rock-Type monster in your hand. You can Tribute this card to negate the activation of an opponent's Spell Card and destroy it.

Anti-Spell. Arguably the most important of the trio, as Wall allows you to load up your backrow with defensive traps and not have to fear your opponent blasting them all away with Heavy Storm, as well as stopping other key staples like Dark Hole and Monster Reborn.

1x Neo-Spacian Grand Mole

At the start of the Damage Step, if this card battles an opponent's monster: You can return both monsters to the hand (without damage calculation).

Mole has been a staple in Stun decks since its release. Mole is extremely useful in getting rid of an opponent's Synchros, Xyzs and difficult to summon monsters without costing you anything other than a Normal Summon. Insanely useful and combos well with the Koa'ki Meirus, as he can pay the cost of revealing a Rock from your hand.

2-3x Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo

Neither player can Special Summon monsters. When this card is flipped face-up: Destroy all Special Summoned monsters on the field.

While the Rock Trio are Anti-Card Effects, Dyna is Anti-Special Summoning. Dyna makes sure nothing bigger than the trio can hit the field, while the trio makes sure Dyna won't die from his cripplingly weak stats. If you don't have the traps to keep Dyna safe, however, he can still keep the deck running by being another Rock for the Trio's cost.

[edit] The Staples

Being a Stun deck, it's advised to run all the standard negation and destruction Spells and Traps to stop the opponent from being able to swarm and overwhelm you.

[edit] Cards That Change With the Format

0-2x Legendary Jujitsu Master

A monster that battles with this Defense Position card is returned to the top of its owner's Deck at the end of the Damage Step.

0-1x Morphing Jar

FLIP: Both players discard all the cards in their hands, then draw 5 cards.

[edit] Common Techs

0-1x Gaia Plate the Earth Giant

You can Special Summon this card by removing from play any 2 Rock-Type monsters in your Graveyard. During your Standby Phase, remove from play 1 Rock-Type monster in your Graveyard, or send this card to the Graveyard. Halve the ATK and DEF of any monster that battles with this card.

2-3x Block Golem

If the only monsters in your Graveyard are EARTH monsters: You can Tribute this face-up card to target 2 Level 4 or lower Rock-Type monster in your Graveyard, except "Block Golem"; Special Summon those targets. This turn, those monsters cannot activate their effects on the field.

0-2x Card Trooper

Once per turn: You can choose a number from 1 to 3, then send that many cards from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard; this card gains 500 ATK for each card sent to the Graveyard this way, until the End Phase. When this card you control is destroyed and sent to your Graveyard: Draw 1 card.

0-2x Revival Golem

The effect of "Revival Golem" can only be used once per turn. When this card is sent from your Deck to the Graveyard: Activate 1 of these effects.
Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.
Add this card from the Graveyard to your hand.

0 or 3x Naturia Cliff

When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Naturia" monster from your Deck to your side of the field in face-up Attack Position.

0-2x Doomcaliber Knight

This card cannot be Special Summoned. When an Effect Monster's effect is activated, you must Tribute this face-up card. Negate that effect's activation and destroy the monster.

0-2x Thunder King Rai-Oh

Neither player can add cards from their Deck to their hand except by drawing them. During either player's turn, when your opponent would Special Summon a monster: You can send this face-up card to the Graveyard; negate the Special Summon and destroy it.

0-2x King Tiger Wangu

Destroy all monsters with an ATK equal to 1400 or less that are Normal Summoned or Special Summoned.

0-2x Beast King Barbaros

You can Normal Summon or Set this card without Tributing, but its original ATK will become 1900. You can Tribute 3 monsters to Tribute Summon this card. If you do: Destroy all cards your opponent controls.

0-3x Grandsoil the Elemental Lord

Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by having exactly 5 EARTH monsters in your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 monster in either player's Graveyard; Special Summon that target to your side of the field. If this card leaves the field, skip the Battle Phase of your next turn.
