The field is where the main part of the duel takes place. When you play a card, you place it in its corresponding place on the field, called a zone. There are a total of six different zones on each side of the field, each of which is designated on a play mat. The field is neatly organized into two rows, seven spots long, aligned like a grid.

Deck Zone

This is where you place your Deck face-down.

  • Location: The back row, to the right of your Spell/Trap Card Zone.


Spell/Trap Card Zone

This is where you place Spell Cards and Trap Cards either face-up or face-down, depending on various factors.

  • Location: The middle five spots in the back row.


Extra Deck Zone

This is where you place your Extra Deck face-down.

  • Location: The back row, to the left of the Spell/Trap Card Zone.


Field Card Zone

This is where you place Field Spell Cards.

  • Location: The top row, at the left of your Monster Card Zone.


Monster Card Zone

This is where you place Monster Cards either face-up or face-down, depending on their Battle Position.

  • Location: The center five spots in the top row.


Graveyard Zone

This is where you normally place your cards that are destroyed or sent to the graveyard by a card effect or discarding. The Graveyard remains face-up.

  • Location:In the top row, to the right of the Monster Card Zones.
