NEO DUEL ACADEMY

Class is now in session! Welcome to Neo Duel Academy, where duelists of all experience levels can use this as a reference point for any technical aspects of the game. This section covers everything from monster effects to resolving chains to things even as technical as drawing a card from the top of your deck during your Draw Phase!

Ordered By:
Chains (needs to be ported to the wiki!)

Monster Effects (needs to be ported to the wiki!)

There are many types of monster effects out there. Some allow you to destroy a spell or trap card on the field, others allow you to destroy every monster on the field, and others will let you prevent a certain type of card from being played by you, your opponent, or both of you!

That's not all. There are also different classifications of monster effects, which is what this section will cover. Note that each type of monster effect has a different spell speed, which will be covered in a different section of Neo Duel Academy.

Priority (needs to be ported to the wiki!)

Priority is, essentially, your right as a player to be able to activate an effect and make sure it finds itself in the first link in a chain. Priority can change under certain conditions, but the majority of the time, it remains with the turn player. Before we get into examples to show how priority is applied in a duel, there are a few key things to remember:

  • Monster effects do not have to have the monster on the field for the effect to resolve unless stated otherwise. This means that if a monster gets removed from the field after its effect is activated as part of a chain, unless the card states that it has to be on the field the whole time for the effect to resolve, the effect will still carry through.
  • Priority can be passed at any time by simply saying you wish to do so. However, there are a few situations where priority changes automatically:
    • The turn player automatically regains priority at the end of any phase in his/her turn.
      • The opponent will automatically gain priority if he/she has a monster with a compulsory trigger effec on the field that has had its effect triggered.
